$345K worth of meth seized at Interstate 8

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)- Yuma agents seize $345,000 in methamphetamine at the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint over the weekend.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said a 28-year-old man from Yuma was arrested Saturday after agents discovered 82 packages of meth hidden in his gas tank, rear quarter panels, and the passenger door.

According to agents, a canine alerted to his 2003 Honda Civic and was sent to secondary further investigation of his vehicle.

The drugs weighed 94.3 pounds with a street value of more than $216,820.

On Sunday, a 25-year-old woman was arrested after agents found 14 packages of meth hidden in the gas tank of her 2010 Chrysler Sebring.

The drugs weighed 55.73 pounds with a street value of $128,185.

CBP states the woman and her 22-year-old passenger were arrested for the transportation of a controlled substance.
