YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - Minimum wage is raising for nearly half of all states in the U.S. during the new year.

24 states and 48 cities and counties will be raising their minimum wage according to the advocacy group national employment law project.

The increase will go into effect on January 1.

Earlier this year, the U.S. house passed the Raise the Wage Act, to make $15 an hour for minimum wage as a federal standard. Once the bill was taken to the Senate, it did not pass. Raising the minimum wage has been a hot topic for the past years.
