Theft attempt never got off the ground

FRESNO, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - A teen gets into big trouble when she tries to steal a plane from a central California airport.

Officials at Fresno Yosemite International Airport say the 17-year-old girl bypassed a fence Wednesday morning to gain access to the aircraft.

She got the plane moving, but never got it off the ground. Instead, she crashed through a fence and slammed into a building.

No one was inside the building, so no one got hurt. The aircraft, however, was seriously damaged.

Police say they found the teen in the cockpit prepared for flight.

"Officers arrived first and contacted a female who was seated inside the aircraft in the pilot seat wearing the pilot's headset." said Chief Drew Bassinger with the airport police.

Bassinger also said, the teen did not got with officers willingly.

"The female appeared to be disoriented and was uncooperative with police when she was taken into custody."

The girl is now in juvenile detention.
