Republican candidate kicks off Imperial Valley campaign for 2020 general elections

Hidalgo gives speech during campaign kickoff in Brawley.

BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY)- Thursday night Juan Hidalgo, a republican candidate for the 51st congressional district, kicked off his campaign for the 2020 election in the city of Brawley.

The event was an opportunity for residents to get to know the candidate who is a veteran of over three decades.

Even though he lost in the 2018 general election, Hidalgo said if elected, he looks to serve the community.

"That's what we need right now more than ever before. We need someone that'll actually work for the people, instead of thinking that the American people work for me. It's not going to be that way. I work for the American people."

Hidalgo said he looks to continue being involved in the community to meet the needs of residents.
