Veteran officers gunned down while eating dinner

SAN LUIS, RCS, Mexico (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - We're learning more about the assassination-style killings of two state police officers in San Luis, Rio Colorado, Mexico.

Tribuna de San Luis reports Officers Ramos Martinez and Ricardo Castro were gunned down Wednesday night while eating dinner at a Chinese restaurant near Calle Zapata and Monterrey Avenue. Investigators say gunmen ambushed the officers.

Both Martinez and Castro were veterans of the Sonoran state police force. Both had served for more than 20-years.

The Mexican military has now joined state, local and federal police in their search for the suspects. They've set up checkpoints going into, and out of, San Luis. At this point, investigators say they believe the suspects are still in the city.

Police still have no motive for the murders, but they suspect the killings may be related to the increased presence of state police officers in the city.
