EL CENTRO, Calif. (KSWT, KYMA, KECY)-The El Centro Police Department (ECPD) is investigating a shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon on the 600 block of South 5th street in El Centro.

Police said three pedestrians were riding on a bike down 5th street when they were approached by two cars, a blue 2012 Chevrolet Colorado and a brown Ford Explorer.

According to police, a male wearing a mask and sitting in the passenger seat of the Chevy, fired multiple rounds in the direction of the pedestrians. The suspects then fled the scene.

One of the pedestrians, a 41-year-old El Centro resident, sustained injuries.

Police say the victim went to a nearby donut shop, Conchitas Bakery, to ask for help. An employee then called ECPD. The victim received medical aid and was then transported to the hospital in El Centro.

ECPD is asking the community for help in relation to the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the El Centro Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 760-337-4525.
