Rosa Parks’ legacy is honored with a statue near historic site
(KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - Exactly 64 years ago today, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat for a white man.
This was a moment that would make her one of the most iconic figures of the Civil Rights Movement.
A statue in her honor has now been unveiled in Downtown Montgomery.
The statue's location is just 30 feet from where the historic moment is said to have taken place.
Rosa Park's arrest inspired a boycott of the Montgomery Bus system for over a year.
However it wasn't until nearly a decade later that all public services were desegregated.
Rosa Parks died at in 2005 at the age of 92.
