Santa strategy puts girl in tight spot

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY/NBC News) - Phoenix firefighters staged an unusual rescue Wednesday night. They had to pull a teenager out of her family's chimney.

The 17-year-old girl found herself locked out of the house. Instead of calling for help, she decided to slip down the chimney like Santa Claus.

Unfortunately, she lacked the finesse of the Jolly Old Elf. She got stuck just before reaching the flue. She called 9-1-1 after failing to free herself.

It took nearly 45-minutes for firefighters to get her out. Paramedics took her to the hospital, but she didn't get hurt during her ordeal.
