Annual partnership provides 200 turkeys to Imperial County families and seniors

CALIPATRIA, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - Hundreds of Imperial Valley families will enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving turkey thanks to the generosity of the Golden State Water Company and Comite Civico Del Valle.

This is the fifth year the water company and the non-profit have teamed up with California state Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia for "Operation Gobble."

Turkey deliveries began last Tuesday at Calipatria City Hall where city leaders joined firefighters in distributing turkeys to those in need.

The giving then moved to the Heber Senior Center, where dozens of the Valley's elderly were treated to free turkeys.

The remaining birds were given to Kennedy Gardens Elementary School as prized for its annual Turkey Trot Run.

Assemblyman Garcia says it was a rewarding experience. "It is heartwarming to see the abundance of generosity illuminated during the holiday season and would like to recognize all the organizations and volunteers working to rectify our community’s shelter, clothing, and food disparities year-round,” said Garcia.
