CBP

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY)- A previously deported sex offender was arrested by Border Patrol agents November 16 after allegedly entering the U.S. illegally.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector said the 32-year-old Mexican national was found 12 miles east of the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry.

Agents arrested the man and transported him to the El Centro Station for immigration and criminal history screening.

After screening, agents revealed the man was identified as Sergio Cruz-Cabrera, who was convicted in 2013 of Assault with Sexual Motivation in Clark County, WA.

According to reports, Cruz was sentenced to 27 months to life imprisonment, to which he served 30 months confinement for his conviction.

Agents said Cruz is being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.  He is the eighth sex offender apprehended by El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents since the fiscal year 2020 began.
