Added storage could power thousands of homes

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) The future of solar power is looking bright in the Phoenix area.

One of the city's utility cooperatives now has plans to boost its solar battery storage.  That means it can boost the number of homes it powers with sunlight.

One of the city's utility cooperatives now has plans to boost its solar battery storage.  That means it can boost the number of homes it powers with sunlight.

A single megawatt could supply power to as many as 250 homes at one time.  The new energy center is expected to generate as much as 250 megawatts.  That could power tens of thousands of homes and businesses.

SRP executives says improved solar storage facilities will lower customers' power bills.  They say similar plants will also lower carbon emissions, provide clean energy to customers, and optimize energy output.
