U.S. Customs and Border Protection

Nationwide decrease in apprehensions

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA) - Border patrol agents in the El Centro Sector (ECBP) have released their highlights for the first month of the fiscal year 2020.

ECPB saw a decrease in apprehensions compared to September. In October, agents apprehended 2,070 people compared to 2,466-- a 16 percent decrease.

Agents also saw a 41 percent decrease in unaccompanied alien children (UAC).

There was a 24 percent decrease in family units (FMU). This decrease is primarily attributed to the nationwide decrease in enforcement actions.

Single adult apprehensions decreased significantly as well.

ECPB saw 4 assaults on agents, compared to 32 in September, "attributed to increase of resources for border securty," said Acting Chief Patrol Agent Ryan J. Scudder.

"Our investment in infrastructure, personnel and technology will only continue to help those who protect our community," he said.

Customs and Border Protection saw  total enforcement actions decline by 14 percent on a nationwide scale in October.

In terms of drug seizures, ECBP seized 63 pounds of meth, 2 pounds of Heroin, and 15 pounds of Fentanyl. Meth seizures decreased, however Heroin and Fentanyl increased considerably.
