Calexico PD search for suspect involved in shooting

CALEXICO , Calif. ( KYMA , KSWT )- A shooting Tuesday night in Calexico left a man wounded.

The Calexico Police Department (CPD), responded to reports of a possible shooting in the Kennedy Gardens neighborhood just before 8:00 pm.
” I saw somebody crying out on this side over here, and I realized that he was hurt, ” said Raul Davila , Kennedy Gardens resident.

Police said two gunshots were fired.

Neighbors said the second gunshot fired hit the victim as he was running on the sidewalk on Espinoza street.
” Upon arrival, officers located the victim on the sidewalk who was standing with a gunshot wound and blood pouring down his leg, ” said Ismael Granados, CPD Officer.
” One of my neighbors said that there were two other guys following him, and they ran through the back alley and got lost, ” said Davila .

CPD says the victim offered little information on the suspect and it’s unclear if the shooting was gang-related.
” It’s a high crime area, it’s also a gang-related area in that part of the city, ” said Granados.
Kennedy Gardens residents say it’s been years since they’ve had a shooting of this kind.
” Well it’s coming back I believe, we never expected that to happen here again, ” said Davila .
Anyone with information on the shooting is encouraged to contact CPD.
Early this morning neighbors gathered to clean the bloodstains off the sidewalk and to pick up the crime tape left behind by police.
