MGN

Distracted driving determined as cause

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) responded to a three-vehicle collision, shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday. Distracted driving is reported to be involved.

The collision happened in the intersection of Avenue 3E and 32nd Street.

The vehicles involved were a blue Ford Mustang traveling westbound on 32nd Street, a Jeep grand Cherokee traveling northbound on Avenue 3E, and a Nissan truck traveling southbound on Avenue 3E.

Investigation revealed that the Mustang did not stop for the red light, and ended up colliding with the Jeep.

The driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries and was transferred to Yuma Regional Medical Center. The remaining two drivers sustained minor injuries as well, but were treated on-scene.

Further investigation revealed the driver of the Mustang was driving while distracted by his phone. The driver has been issued a citation.

YCSO encourages all citizens to be safe on the roadways, and not to use cell phones or other devices while operating their vehicles.
