Construction foreman’s death unsolved 27 years later

In this week’s cracking the case we dig into a murder of a foreman dating back to June 1992.

Charles Newton Powell was in Yuma working a job for his construction company at the time of his murder.

Yuma Police officers responded to the Hacienda Motel on Fourth Avenue just after midnight.

A witness said the shooter knocked on his door before he ended up knocking on the motel room of Powell.

He explained seeing Powell and the shooter interacting right before the murder.

” A few minutes later he hears what sounds to be like a door slamming but it was actually a gunshot. He gets up again and sees the suspect running, ” said Sgt. Lori Franklin, Yuma Police Department.

Officers were able to create a sketch of the suspect seen fleeing the scene.

YPD said they questioned several people but never had enough to make an arrest.
