New report reveals possible motive behind deadly prison attack

New details are emerging on a deadly attack on a detention officer in the Lower Buckeye jail in Phoenix.

Azfamily.com reports Daniel Davitt , the inmate accused of the beating, filed a sexual misconduct claim against Officer Gene Lee in August. The claim accused Lee of staring at Davitt inappropriately in a prison restroom.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says the claim was filed after the allegation was investigation and deemed unsubstantiated.

The sheriff’s office says Davitt knocked Lee to the ground leaving him comatose with a head injury. The officer died Wednesday.

Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone says inmates file complaints against officers all the time. He says there was nothing to indicate Lee was in danger.

Davitt’s behind bars awaiting trial on sex crime charges.
