Day of the Dead Festival to start new tradition for students

A few Calipatria residents hope to start a new Day of the Dead tradition at Fremont Primary School.

Students were asked to bring pictures of their loved ones who had passed away to be displayed at the school’s ofrenda .

Sylvia Chavez, one of the residents behind the ofrenda said students were also informed of the Day of The Dead traditions and values and why it’s important to remember loved ones even though they are no longer with us.

” It’s a day that we celebrate our relatives that have passed on. But we’re actually celebrating life. And it’s a good time to tell stories of the individual and the happy moments with that individual. And recreate those moments. ”
