Kane Perez sentenced to a decade behind bars

The Yuma man who confessed to setting the Stewart Vincent Wolfe Imaginary Playground on fire when he was 13 years old in 2014, was sentenced to more than a decade behind bars.

Kane Perez was also a suspect in an officer-involved shooting that dates back to August 2018.

Perez pled guilty to attempted arson and aggravated assault Wednesday morning.

Judge David Haws sentenced Perez to a year and a half behind bars for the arson fire, with 350 days served and 10 years in prison with 450 days credit for aggravated assault.

Perez had no comment in the courtroom.

His sentence also included paying The City of Yuma back $12,003 and $1,230,333 in restitution to Travelers Insurance.

Perez was arrested by Yuma Police in August 2018.
