El Centro to open Aquatic Center
El Centro residents will be glad to hear that the long-awaited Aquatic Center will be opened at last.
The City of El Centro is excited to announce the opening ceremony and State of the City Address will be held on Saturday, October 26 at 9 a.m.
Visitors arriving for the opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will receive free admission into the Aquatic Center on opening day.
The center includes pools of various sizes, a children’s pool, a lazy river, and an eight-lane competition pool. There is also an aquatic building that will include lockers, a snack bar, party/training facility, restrooms and shower areas.
A hi-tech, modern filtration system for the pool will provide clean, sanitary water for all swimmers.
El Centro’s iconic Plunge, the city’s only community swimming pool for decades was demolished after the 7.2 magnitude earthquake which shook the region in 2010.
State budget cuts that same year affected development, but negotiations were later made. The total cost of the Aquatic Center is estimated to be approximately $16 million dollars.
The city has developed a cost structure for using the Aquatic Center on a variety of levels from individual day use, family rates, summer passes, annual membership along with rates for private parties and events.
The city believes its new Aquatic Center will be viewed as the recreational pinnacle of Imperial County for many years to come.
