PG&E power cut leaves 1.5 million Californians without power

Pacific Gas and Electric cut off power to another 10-thousand people in the southern part of California’s Central Valley on Thursday to reduce the risk of wildfires.

Some 1.5 million people in the northern part of the state will spend a second day without electricity. PG&E expects the shutoffs to shift to Southern California as high winds shift and travel down the state.

The nation’s largest utility is hoping to reduce the risks of malfunction-sparked wildfires like the Camp Fire. A transmission line started that blaze.

It was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history, killing at least 85 people, and destroying more than 18-thousand buildings.

In September, PG&E agreed to pay an $11-billion settlement to cover damages.
