FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking intense heat for the weekend

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect into Monday due to dangerous heat. Tracking hotter temperatures for the weekend. Prepare for brutal afternoons and very warm overnights, so make sure to practice heat safety all day.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - It was a warm morning across the Desert Southwest. A new record warm low was BROKEN in Yuma this morning. El Centro tied the record warm low. Take a look.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday for the Desert Southwest.

Highs will be between 105-120 degrees and lows in the low between 85-95 degrees. This is why an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect because of little to no relief from the heat even at night.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect through 8 p.m. Monday due extreme and dangerous heat. It will also be humid, making it feel hotter.

A ridge of high pressure will be staying in place, keeping us very hot across the region into early next week. Not tracking record levels for our area, but it will be close.

With this intense heat, we are in for major and even extreme heat risks. So remember to practice heat safety all hours of the day.

Monsoonal moisture will continue to keep our dew points elevated, which will make us feel hot and sticky. There are chance for storm and shower activity being possible Sunday and into early next week.
