Imperial Valley takes part in “International Walk to School Day”

Earlier Wednesday morning, students and parents at the Heber elementary school district took part in ” International Walk to School Day ” .

The goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle for students as well as combat childhood obesity and promote traffic safety.

Safe Route To School Program Coordinator , Yoli Viviana Sanchez said not only is the event a reminder for students to stay active but also improving the environment.

” How fun it is to walk to school. And to include their 60 minutes of physical activity every day. But mainly to also do it safely. And always help the school have a better traffic flow in the morning. At the same time, we’re reducing the green gas emissions around the schools, ” Sanchez said.

First responders and law enforcement were also on hand to join students in their walk to school.
