Police nab bike theft suspect, victim gets new bike

Calexico Police detained an unidentified suspect in downtown on Friday afternoon. He faces criminal charges on the theft of a bike belonging to beloved resident Eddie Paez .

” I went to buy some razors. Oh! Man! They took my bike to Mexicali. I felt very bad because he took it, ” Paez said.

On the same day the suspect was detained, Paez received a surprise: a new bike from a benefactor.

“A man from Las Vegas ,Nevada , gave me a new bike,” Paez said.

Paez said he was very sad and angry when he lost his bike. He would usually be seen riding around town and was a staple at public events. He would be seen sitting on his bike calmly looking over the events.

Paez said he feared that without his bike, his days of attending events were over.

” A man came from the alley. He saw it and took it, ” Paez said with unbelief.

Thanks to the good heart of the community who showered Paez with affection, he’s ready to ride around the streets of Calexico once more.

If convicted, the suspect faces up to $1,000 dollars in fines and up to six months in county jail. The bike was not recovered.
