Trump administration reports drop in border apprehensions

The Trump administration says it saw a 30-percent drop in the number of people apprehended at the southern border from July to August.

The percentage of border crossing traveling as families also dipped by as much as 20-percent.

Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan credits aggressive crackdowns on both sides of the border for the decline. However, the number of illegal border crossings traditionally drops during the hot summer months.

The U.S. Border Patrol apprehended nearly 51-thousand people at the southern border in August.

The majority were Central American refugees.
