Border Patrol seizes methamphetamine at I-8 checkpoint

U.S. Border Patrol agents seized nearly $100,000 in methamphetamine in a bust at its Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint near Wellton Thursday night.

Agents say a drug-sniffing dog alerted them to the drugs.

A more intensive search of a silver Honda Accord revealed 37 packages of meth hidden in the car’s gas tank.

The drugs weighed nearly 42-pounds with a street value of more than $96,000.

Agents arrested a 45-year-old Mexican national on charges of transporting a controlled substance.
