Murder case of an El Centro man remains unsolved

An unsolved murder in the valley is growing colder by the day.

Almost a month has passed and the person who opened fire on a young man remains at large.

It’s been almost a month now since Erasmo Torres was tragically killed in El Centro. Now his mother is asking the community for help.

” They were walking through to get to the house. Someone approached them. My son told his brother to run and my son saw his brother getting shot, ” said Rosita Torres, mother of the victim.

It’s been tough on Torres, she said she never thought she’d have to ask people for help to lay her son to rest.

” My son is already in the mortuary waiting for something to happen, for us to do something for him. We are planning to do another food sale and another carwash, It’s been very hard, ” said Torres.

Victim Witness Program is a local organization that helps families with emergency funds and funeral assistance.

Torres said the organization had to back out from helping her because the El Centro Police Department ( ECPD ) was unable to disclose to the organization whether or not her son was affiliated with a gang.

She wants to make it clear that he was not.

“I don’t want people to misjudge or maybe make an assumption that because the way he was dressed or where it happened or the time, he was a victim of a crime,” said Torres.

Torres said the assumption that her son was in a gang has made it tough to seek help.

” Because of the other person that was involved, then yes it is in a way, gang-related, but it’s not because my son was one. He was the victim, and I wouldn’t want any mother to be going through what I am right now, ” said Torres.

ECPD said they can’t disclose any information about the murder, as that may compromise the investigation. Anyone with information that might help police solve the case is encouraged to contact ECPD .
