Wanted man arrested for assaulting an officer

Police arrested a wanted man on suspicion of assaulting a Yuma police officer, Monday.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), members of Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force and the Yuma Police Department (YPD) arrested Miguel Rodriguez for allegedly assaulting a Yuma police officer on August 18, who tried to arrest him for an unrelated criminal matter.

Reports show Rodriguez fled the scene after the assault.

Authorities said Rodriguez has an extensive criminal history in Yuma and is a known gang member. USMS was asked to assist with locating and arresting Rodriguez.

After an extensive investigation, authorities were able to locate Rodriguez in the vicinity of 8th Street and Palm Avenue. When authorities arrived at the scene, Rodriguez ran inside to avoid arrest. A YPD K9 Unit was called to assist with extracting Rodriguez, and after an hour-long standoff, he surrendered peacefully.

USMS said Rodriguez was booked in the Yuma County Jail on the charge of aggravated assault on a police officer as well as other charges for the unrelated matter.
