Convicted sex offender arrested by CBP in Calexico

The U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested a previously deported aggravated sex offender on July 27 after illegally entering the United States.

According to agents assigned to the Calexico station, they suspected the individual entering the U.S. approximately 12 miles east of the Calexico West Port of Entry. Agents responded to the area, arrested the individual, and transported him to the Calexico station for immigration and criminal history screening.

After agents checked his record, it revealed Gregorio Neri-Basilio a 36-year-old Mexican national, was previously convicted on three counts of sexual abuse of a child on July 13, 2004, out of Utah County, Utah. Agents said he was sentenced to 12 months in prison for his crimes and was removed from the U.S. by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on February 24, 2005, as an aggravated felon.

The agents said Neri is being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.
