231 surrender to Border Patrol agents near Lukeville

231 Central Americans suspected of illegally entering the United States surrendered to Border Patrol agents west of Lukeville Tuesday morning.

According to a press release, multiple technology systems located several groups in a remote area near Quitobaquito Springs at around 2 a.m. Border Patrol cameras continued to track the group as agents moved into the area.

A Department of Homeland Security health team assisted with medical evaluations for the group of 231 individuals, who consisted mostly of family units and unaccompanied minors from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the area the group used to cross is the same location where a group of 399 people surrendered to agents last week. A few days after, armed smugglers were seen in the area directing a woman and child to cross the international border.

The large groups of family units crossing the southwest border are surrendering immediately to Border Patrol agents, CBP added.
