Yuma County Library District prepping community for economic success

According to a recent survey from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Yuma County’s unemployment rate decreased by almost 3% from January to February 2019.

Community and government-funded programs targeted at assisting the public with job placement may be one contributing factor for that improvement.

However, the Yuma County Library District (YCLD) is strategically going beyond job fairs to fight unemployment.

They’re willing to do whatever they can to help people become more employable, which translates into fulfilling full-time employment opportunities.

That includes granting the public access to a much needed comprehensive financial development system, in order to dismiss the common misconception that job placement is the only way to deal with unemployment.

YCLD is focusing on the bigger picture; setting the community up for economic success through complete community enrichment.

Sarah Wisdom, Community Relations Manager for YCLD, said “A part of our library’s mission is community enrichment. And we really think economic success is part of that. We want to support our community’s efforts.”

By providing hundreds of academic courses, technical skills, language classes, and both career and financial related workshops and programming, the library hopes the public will take these resources and use them independently to set milestones to continue to improve their financial future.

Andrew Zollman, Business Librarian at YCLD, said their goals for people who attend the library’s programs are “Getting [the public] to change their habits, saving more [money], getting a better job, not just settling for a basic entry level position. It’s doing something to better themselves.”

Every program associated with the Yuma County Library District is free of cost.

So, anywhere you see the library’s logo indicates the public has unlimited access to that resource.
