Tracking a seasonable start to September and tropical moisture possibly ahead
It's a seasonable start to September. I am tracking a great and dry rest of the work week. However, I am tracking possible tropical moisture to bring in cooler temperatures and higher rain chances for the holiday weekend.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Happy September 1st! Meteorological Fall begins September 1st (TODAY) and lasts through November 30th.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), meteorological seasons use fixed calendar months rather than fluid astronomical seasons because it makes calculating seasonal statistics easier and produces more consistent data.
In meteorology, the calendar is broken up into four three-month groups. Each group represents a season. And September, October, and November are represented for fall.
When it comes to fall we are still focused and feel rather warm, but our averages do begin to cool throughout the fall months. Take a look at our average highs for the next 3 months. We can expect cooler months ahead.
We are also 21 days away from the Fall Equinox. Fall will officially begin on September 22nd at 5:05 PM for Yuma.
Today is a seasonable day as we kick off the month. Highs today are trending right where we should be. It is still humid making it feel hotter, but at least we have seasonable temperatures and not having extreme summer heat.
Heading into our evening, I am tracking a warm and clear night. It will also still be a little humid with a light breeze. Still going to be a great evening ahead to go get some tacos for Taco Tuesday.
Right now, we have a lower-pressure system in place keeping our temperatures cooler and providing more comfortable weather conditions.
However, there is some tropical moisture to the south that may bring in some additional clouds and humidity with higher storm chances later this week and into the holiday weekend.
TRACKING THE TROPICS: Tracking a newly developed tropical storm in the Pacific named Marie that formed just this morning. Marie's path is traveling northwest and is expected to strengthen into a Hurricane in the days to come. Marie may bring in some tropical moisture to the United States later this week.
There are still lots of uncertainties, but it is something I will be tracking as it could bring higher chances of storms toward the end of the week and in for the holiday weekend.
Tracking seasonable and slightly below normal temperatures all week long and come the weekend I am tracking even cooler temperatures as highs will drop in the double-digits.
However, heading into the holiday weekend, I am tracking possible tropical moisture to bring in even higher storm and rain chances for the holiday weekend and for Labor Day. The best chance favoring for shower activity is looking on Saturday.
