Ex-Arizona medical transport driver gets prison for theft

A former medical transport driver has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for stealing more than $100,000 from the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System.

State prosecutors say 72-year-old David Henry Meyer previously pleaded guilty to theft.

In addition to the 27-month prison term, Meyer must pay nearly $101,000 in restitution to AHCCCS.

The Fraud Division of the Pima County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of internal theft at a Tucson-area medical transportation business in October 2017.

Prosecutors say the business suspected Meyer of submitting false patient transportation records and defrauding the AHCCCS program.

That led to an investigation by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and the AHCCCS Office of Inspector General.

It revealed that Meyer had been submitting false patient transportation records for nine months.
