Candy Cane Lane: A long-lasting holiday tradition

With less than two weeks until Christmas, a Yuma neighborhood ‘lighting up’ for the community to enjoy.

Candy Cane Lane is a long-lasting tradition where a normal culdesac neighborhood transforms into a holiday attraction in the area of 28th Street and Vista Lane. Robert Gurrola is a resident of the neighborhood and said it’s a huge commitment decorating for the holidays.

“I’ve lived here for five years and it’s been going on since I was a child.”

Houses are filled with bright lights, fun inflatables, and messages celebrating the holiday season. A tradition since the 1940s with each home having their own theme.

“It brings a lot of attraction to a lot of people and a lot of children like to see the Christmas lights.”

Salvador Guerrero is with his family and said Candy Cane Lane benefits the whole community.

“Most families don’t really get to decorate their houses as fancy as this, and this gives children a wonderful opportunity to see how beautiful Christmas lights could look if you put a lot of effort into it.”

Candy Cane Lane is open in Yuma until Christmas Day.
