Old West gunfighters shoot it out at Cattle Call Parade

Old Westgunfighters shot it out at Brawley’s Cattle Call Parade as part of new attractionsfeatured at the 62 nd Brawley signature event.

City CouncilMember Sam Couchman said, “Some gunfighters, they came down and they did alittle spoof out there in the street. They’re firing off some guns and stuff.”

There werethe traditional community floats representing local industry, groups and area diversitywhich rolled down Main Street.

“Ag andcattle. We all know the valley was founded on that and that’s what this is allabout,” Couchman said.

Brawley residentMarcelino Felician said he enjoyed everything, but more than anything the seeingchildren and animals being part of the event.

“Fascinatingto see how the children really enjoy participation, especially the schools, andthe groups, folkloric dancing, especially,” Felician said.

Council MemberNorma Kastner-Jauregui said, “I really enjoyed the bands, the school bands. AndI really enjoyed the IVC float this year. It was outstanding. It was different.”

Couchmansaid it was a day for family and friends to have fun, for businesses to dobusiness, for everyone to have a win-win kind of day.

“It has abig financial impact, because a lot of people come and stay in Brawley. Theypurchase food here in Brawley. They do a lot of different things for Brawley.But, it’s also just entertainment for the whole community. And there’s revenuethat’s developed by all the businesses here: bars, restaurants, hotels, motels,everybody benefits,” Couchman said.

The parade,along with a rodeo, completes another successful Cattle Call week for thevalley.
