Close to $6 million in grants coming to Imperial Valley to battle homelessness

Close to $6 million in state funds will be coming to Imperial County, thanks to non-competitive grants aimed specifically to battle homelessness in the valley.

By joining forces with local agencies who work with the homeless, Imperial Valley Continuum of Care Council will oversee how the funds will be used and hope to find the needs of the homeless population.

While the issues of homelessness are significant in the valley, one county official hopes the grants will bring much-needed relief. Peggy Price, Imperial County Director of Social Services, said, “It will also allow us to increase the inventory that’s needed in order to have house our individuals in our community that we have identified that are experiencing homelessness issues.”

One of the issues the Imperial Valley Continuum of Care Council hopes to address is mental health and shelters for homeless individuals.
