Ask Yuma: Why is it important to Vote

With Arizona being one of the 15 states closing their voter registration ahead of the Midterm Election, we asked Yuma residents why they think voting is important and their thoughts on the upcoming Senate race.

“It’s important to vote because we make a difference when we vote, ” said Kookie Ardisana, a Yuma resident who will submit an early ballot for the midterm.

Arizona is one of the few states where Republican Nominees will have to win to maintain control of the Senate. Ray Duran is hoping Republican Candidate Martha Mc Sally will be able to win the tight race against Democratic Candidate Kyrsten Sinema.

“It’s extremely important for us to vote because a lot of decisions in Congress are going to be made within the next two to four years, so for the Senate and the House it’s very critical,” said Duran. “I am going for Mc Sally I know it’s been brutal between the two but that’s where I’m leaning currently.”

Kookie, on the other hand, feels undecided. She said she needs more time before she’s able to make a decision.

“It’s a tight race and I’m still undecided.”

For a Yuma resident who wishes to hide his identity, he shares why he feels the Senate election has been filled negativity and not focused on policies.

“All the commercials are negative and everybody says -Yeah I approve this.” He adds “It should be what I did ‘right’ and what I can do for ‘you’, and if you want to check my background-check my background.”
