Restaurant employees fired after attacking man wearing MAGA hat

A man who was out eating dinner with his girlfriend’s family on Mother’s Day was allegedly verbally and racially attacked by restaurant employees for wearing a hat. In a statement released Wednesday by the restaurant, two of the employees have been fired.

The incident happened at Cheesecake Factory in Miami, while 22-year-old Eugenior Joseph was seated. He was wearing a red hat that stated “Make America Great Again.” The hat is known to be worn by supporters of President Donald Trump.

Multiple witnesses say one female employee pointed at Joseph’s hat, signaled to her coworkers to come over, and put her finger on top of Joseph’s head. They allege that some of the employees referred to Joseph, who is African American, as a “n**g*r.” One witness stated that employees said,”I’m going to knock his head in so hard his hat’s going to come off.” Joseph stated in an interview that two male employees were getting close to him smacking and balling their fists. There were photos and video taken that verify the incident. Employee’s allegedly continued to yell and mock Joseph and his girlfriend as they got up to use the bathroom. The staff members followed them while screaming “boo.”

A witness says the incident was so traumatic that an elderly lady who was waiting at the restaurant had to take medication to calm herself down and a young child started crying.

Police were called and documented the incident. However, the family did not file any charges, according to witnesses.

In an interview with The Daily Wire, Joseph told them that he wears the hat because he thinks President Trump is “a really good President.” He said that he was disappointed that a person of his ethnicity can’t wear a hat without being attacked.

A spokesperson for the restaurant told CBS in a statement that, “upon learning of this incident, we immediately apologized to the guests…” Cheesecake Factory also stated, ” We were very disappointed to learn that two staff members made disparaging remarks about Mr. Joseph’s hat that made him and his family feel unwelcome. As a result, as of Tuesday those two individuals are no longer employed with the company.”
