Second suspect involved in Yuma shooting arrested

A second suspect in the shooting of a man and woman in Yuma last week has been identified and taken into custody, police said.

Armando Montano, 26, was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder on Tuesday, May 29th. Montano was arrested without incident at the 200 block of West 21st Place.

The Yuma Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance with shots fired in the area of the 2000 block of S. Avenue A on Wednesday, May 23rd, at approximately 12:02 p.m.

An investigation revealed that later that day at around 1:30 p.m. one of the suspect vehicles was located in Somerton, Ariz. YPD’s Special Enforcement Team was deployed to the area of Somerton Avenue and Fulton Street to investigate the area.

Two subjects were taken to the Yuma Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries and according to YPD, there were three vehicles involved in the incident.

Authorities said that the victims did not return any shots and that the suspects and victims were acquaintances.

The first suspect, 33-year-old Daniel Muñoz, was taken into custody on Wednesday, May 23rd. He was later booked for attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and criminal damage.

Police said no other suspects are being sought at this time and the investigation is still ongoing.
