The plan to save the Salton Sea

Joined by conservation groups, Assembly Member Eduardo Garcia spear heads the battle to save the Salton Sea and insure residents the importance of the crisis.

“We see this as our number one priority, in our region as it relates to the environment and the public health of our region. The people who live in and around the Salton Sea, ” said Assembly Member Garcia.

Garcia hopes to implement a 10 year plans that will guide investments to protect the ecosystem and public health. But one local official hopes that it’s not too late.

Brawley Parks and Recreations Commissioner, John Hernandez said, “we want action and we want it now. So the Assemblyman hopefully is listening to our cries. And these cries are for help, these cries are for funding dollars. To save lives and improve lives and improve the health of the people around the Salton Sea.”

Garcia says time is running out. And the state must act now before it’s too late. ” There’s a plan. There’s money. Now we need to see action. There’s no more studying, there’s no more waiting. We need to get these barriers out of the way.”

The upcoming general election will be crucial to preserving the Salton Sea. A 200 million dollar water bond can be implemented into the Garcia’s plan if it passes on the ballot.
