Red For Ed walkout continues for third day

Arizona teachers will continue to wear red shirts and rally in Yuma County Monday for the third day of teacher walkouts.

Supporters of the Red For Ed movement are fighting for more education funding and teacher raises.

Republican Gov. Doug Ducey and GOP legislative leaders said Friday they had reached an agreement of 20 percent pay increase for teachers by 2020 and $100,000,000 in additional dollars for support staff, increasing to $371,000,000 over five years.

Hundreds of schools announced they will be closed on Monday. The Arizona Legislature is expected to be in session and may introduce a budget proposal by Monday afternoon.

“I can’t wait to get back to my classroom. I want nothing more than to continue on with my regular life. I just want everything to go back to normal. We hope it stops now! That’s what we want!” said Shellie Springborn, an art teacher in Yuma C ounty .
