City Officials react to Vice President Pence’s visit

From the moment it was announced that Vice President Pence was making an appearance in the city of Calexico, not everyone was ready to welcome him with open arms.

Vice President Pence arrived in Calexico to assure border patrol workers that their work and sacrifice is recognized. However, some city officials think it was all part of a show. “I’m honored that he chose to come to the Imperial Valley. It’s just the unfortunate part that their using this as a I guess publicity stunt. But overall and all what was being done there was needed,” said Raymond Castillo, Chairman of the Imperial County Board of Supervisors. Calexico city council member Bill Hodge disagrees, saying Pence’s visit was an important one. “It tells you that we’re on the map. It tells you that they’re interested on the border here. And what is going on and the construction that is taking place.” Chamber of Commerce member Hildy Carrillo says the Trump Adminitration wants to make sure the border fence is one everyone’s mind. “At the highest level, they want to make sure that this wall slash fence project is in the mouths of everybody.”

While construction on the border fence is still being completed, this visit assures that funds and future efforts are being seriously taken for the completion of the fence.
