Man arrested while visiting Calipatria State Prison

A man visiting the Calipatria State Prison on Sunday was arrested after allegedly bringing in marijuana onto the prison’s grounds.

Davey Woodard III drove to the prison to give a visitor a ride into the state prison. The visitor had already entered the institution when staff began conducting a security check at the parking lot.

Authorities discovered Woodard was sitting inside the vehicle and detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle.

Woodward allowed authorities to search him and his vehicle which led to the discovery of approximately 17 grams of marijuana, one glass pipe, and one metal grinder. The 17 grams of marijuana had an estimated prison value of 1,700.00 dollars.

Woodard was arrested and transported to the Imperial County Jail where he faces felony charges. If convicted, Woodard faces up to three to five years in prison.
