Police respond to armed robbery at Family Dollar store

Yuma Police responded to an armed robbery at the Family Dollar Store located at 2298 West 8th Street at around 5:03 p.m. Thursday.

An investigation revealed a man entered the store, displayed a weapon and demanded money. The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount.

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Joel Lara. Lara was taken into custody following a foot pursuit. There were no reported injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

Lara is facing six felony charges that include aggravated assault with deadly weapon, armed robbery with deadly weapon, armed robbery threat use weapon, possession of a weapon, robbery, and threat to damage property. His bond is set at $200,000 dollars and his next court date is on Tuesday, February 27th to see if the formal charges will be filed.
