Foul stench sparks community meeting with officials
Tuesday Foothills residents will finally get the chance to express their disgust with a foul smell in the area in a meeting o rganized by Yuma County Supervisor Darren Simmons.
The odor that residents believe is generated from the privately owned Far West sewer systems and has been described as “rotten” and “foul” by those in the area.
Neighbors, ranging from those immediately next to some of the treatment plants and lift stations to those even miles from it, say the smell at times can be nauseating.
Representatives from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, the Arizona Corporation Commission and the owners of Far West are expected to attend to hear residents’ concerns.
ADEQ’s public information officer, Erin Jordan, reached out to News 11 via email saying, “There is an on-going investigation into these odor complaints.”
Jordan says there is an ADEQ online complaint form.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gila Mountain United Methodist Church, 12716 N Frontage Rd, Yuma, AZ 85367.
