Victims of bridge car crash are identified

Two local people are dead after a fatal crash at a bridge.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) said two people died after a collision with a bridge guardrail on Interstate 8 on Monday evening at Boulder Creek Bridge, near In-Ko-Pah Park Road.

CHP said a Nissan Altima hit the guardrail, flipped on its roof and skidded across eastbound lanes crashing against the mountainous terrain. Both driver and passenger died of their injuries. They were not wearing seatbelts. CHP said no drugs or alcohol were found in the car.

We reached out to family and friends of the victims. They were identified as 23-year-old Norma Gastelum and 34-year-old Carlos Castaneda, both from Calexico.

CHP Officer Javier Amezcua said, “Vehicle was traveling eastbound towards imperial county. The driver lost control. At this time it’s still under investigation the reasons for the loss of control. Impacted the guard rail there on that corner and the vehicle overturned.”

A Go Fund Me account has been set up for one of the victims involved in the crash. If you would like to donate click here. The crash is under investigation.
