Shed catches fire in Somerton

At 2:14 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the Somerton Cocopah Fire Department responded to a report of a shed on fire to the rear of a residence at 1037 W. Eucalyptus Street.

The first unit arriving found a large work shop, approximately 1,000 square feet, to the rear of a residence fully engulfed and threatening the residence to the front of it and another residence to the west. Mutual aid was requested from MCAS Fire Department for assistance at the scene. Yuma Fire Department and Rural Metro provided mutual aid by back filling the station for any additional calls for service.

Somerton Cocopah Firefighters pulled multiple hose lines and attacked the fire, protecting the exposed residence on each side of the fire. The fire was under control in 23 minutes. Because of the amount tools and equipment in this work shop it is estimated that $50,000 dollars in losses were suffered.
