New drug gives hope to HIV patients
A new drug might offer hope for those living with HIV.
The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center said a new drug called “JULUCA” can give hope to people living with the virus. They said it’s a complete HIV treatment in a single pill taken daily. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved it.
Health workers and community groups learned about the latest in HIV treatment at a workshop on Wednesday evening in El Centro.
LGBT Center officials said HIV continues to affect large numbers of people mainly through unprotected sexual contact. They said people can become infected in other ways, as well.
LGBT Resource Center Director Rosa Diaz said, “Today they’re going to concentrate on a new medication, Juluca. And they’re going to talk about how one can get infected with the HIV. Also, where to get tested, and more so the importance of seeking help.”
According to the website HIV.gov, there are over one million people in the U.S. living with HIV. Some of them are unaware they have it.
