Two-vehicle collision after driver fails to stop at intersection

Two vehicles collided after one of the drivers failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Keystone and Austin Road at around 1:00 p.m. Monday.

31-year-old Victor Carrillo was driving in a 2016 Nissan southbound on Austin Road at an unknown speed approaching the intersection of Keystone Road.

Alberto Arce, 31-year-old driving the 2010 International was heading eastbound on Keystone Road approaching the intersection with Austin Road.

Carrillo failed to stop at the stop sign of the intersection directly into the path of Arce’s vehicle. Arce attempted to steer his vehicle away to avoid the collision but was unable to stop the collision. The reason for Carrillo’s failure to stop is still under investigation.

The impact of the collision propelled Carrillo’s Nissan into an agricultural field coming to rest on its wheels. Arce’s vehicle veered off to the right shoulder and directly into the West Main Canal becoming partially submerged in the water.

Keystone Road was closed for traffic from Austin Road to State Route 86 for approximately three hours.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Drugs and alcohol did not play a factor.
