Town celebrates 13th Annual Honey Festival

Westmorland celebrated its 13 th Honey Festival on Saturday.

Organizers of this year’s 13 th Annual Honey Festival said over a thousand people came out to enjoy music, food, and honey. They said the event draws people countywide, even from as far as San Diego and the Los Angeles County area. People could be seen buying jars of raw sweet honey, enjoying snacks, live music, and the company of friends.

Organizers say it takes the work of a lot of bees to make just a teaspoonful of honey.

The Bees4Kids.org website states that eating honey is the smart thing to do, because honey contains ingredients that improve the brain’s function.

Event Organizer Sara Garcia said, “Westmorland’s really popular for its honey vendors. We have quite a few in town. Our honey festival is a way to get our residents and all of our honey people out in the open. And they get to sell their local honey. Westmorland’s actually the largest honey capital in the world per capita.”

Bees4Kids.org also claims that honey has natural preservatives, so it doesn’t go bad.
