Former Gila Ridge teacher pleaded guilty to felony charge

John Rodenburg, a former Gila Ridge High School math teacher accused of taking an underage student across state lines with sexual intentions pleaded guilty to one of the charges filed against him Wednesday.

Rodenburg admitted to enticing the victim, who was underage at the time of the incident.

According to the judge, the victim deceived her legal guardians telling them she would be spending the weekend with a girlfriend. The former math teacher then took the victim to Utah.

Rodenburg pleaded guilty to the charge of custodial interference with sexual motivation which is a class three felony.

The plea agreement states he will have to submit to five years probation. However, there is a chance that he could face a minimum of two years in prison when he’s sentenced.

Rodenburg must register as a sex offender and cannot have contact with the victim.

Rodenburg will be sentenced next month.
